Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone!!
I hope you're all having a simply splendid day. The sun is shining here and we had a wonderful church service this morning. I do wish I had gotten to go home, but I suppose that is part of growing up. The thing I miss most is that our church sings old hymns. So many churches now just sing all new music and don't seem to appreciate how beautiful the older music is. The words were so much more poetic and profound  in my mind. Some of my favorites are Nothing but the Blood of Jesus,  Christ the Lord has Risen Today, and How Great Thou Art. What are some of your favorites?

Of course, I had to wear the closest thing I have to an Easter bonnet today. It's tradition! I paired it with one of my favorite vintage jackets and a pair of grandma's gloves. I think robin's egg blue, white, and yellow are such perfect spring colors.

And, a few photos with the hubby!

Happy Easter darlings, never take this day for granted. Jesus took all our sins upon Himself so that we could have life!

Luke 24:1-8
On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.  They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,  but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.  While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?  He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:  ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’  Then they remembered his words.

Priorities

I've had a good week. A really good week. I ate how I was supposed to,  went running like I was supposed to, and took time to do more creative things like reading, writing, and cooking. It always takes me a while to get to a place like this. A place where my priorities are where they should be, and where I feel like I'm in good health. Maybe it's the beautiful weather, or the promise of spring and summer to come. Maybe it's because school will be wrapping up shortly and I couldn't be more excited about it. I can't wait to have my sister back from her trip, and a whole lot of other things on the horizon.

This was seven days after wet-setting my hair in curlers. I set them in curlers last Saturday and hadn't washed my hair since and I STILL had some curls in my hair! Craziness. I love that I've trained my hair to basically not get greasy. I just started washing it less and less, brushing it with a boar bristle brush every once in a while, and my locks followed suit. It's so much less dry now too, and I save money on shampoo and conditioner!

The wind was horrendous while we were taking these photos. It was making me oh so sad, haha! Even when the weather is perfect here in SD it always has to be ruined by the wind. Sean and I took a walk this evening and almost got blown off the sidewalk. But that's ok! We're used to it by now :)

Hope you have a lovely weekend in store for you! Easter weekend is one of my very favorites. I can't be with family this year, but it's my favorite just the same.
God Bless!

Isaiah 53:3-4
He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.

Blue Sky

First of all, check me out on Flock Together today! I'm remixing an awesome skirt that I borrowed :)

I suppose I need to start filtering all of the wintery posts out of my drafts in anticipation for warmer weather! You know, if that ever comes. I'm not sure why I started taking photos in advance and scheduling my posts, but I find it's so much easier for me this way. This particular outfit was worn on quite a cold day here. I pulled out these super cute legwarmers that my older sister found for my birthday! I actually don't have any argyle in my wardrobe so they were a perfect warm and cozy addition :) She knows me so well!

I loved how clear and blue the sky was on this day. It was just beautiful with not a cloud in the sky. I love the natural gradient of color too. I always wondered where that came from as a kid working in programs like Word or Paint. I would always use the gradient color function and thought it was so cool. It's neat to notice that about the sky now, how it fades from darker blue to white! Pretty, pretty :)

I think natural light is such a pretty addition to photos. It's funny because Sean and I are in the process of looking at homes to buy and we tend to look at different attributes of the homes. He's looking at all the construction/utility side of things and I look at things like: Will it have lots of natural light? Is there a good photo taking spot? A walk in closet? Haha. We can see where my priorities lie!
Looking at homes is such a scary prospect though. Our lease on the apartment is up this summer and I don't know if that's enough time to find a place that we want to live at fairly long-term. We don't want to rush into anything that's not going to be right for us. I keep drooling over the old and pretty houses, but they cost so much more in utilities because of the old windows and lack of insulation. I just hope to find a compromise of things that we will enjoy in a home. Sean wants one with a basement, and I keep telling him that a walk in closet is a necessity but it's gonna take some convincing ;).

Today is my last day of work for the week! We get Friday and Monday off for spring break/Easter which will be nice. Plus the weather is supposedly going to be in the 50's!!! Which is gorgeous if you ask me. I finally got back into my running program too so it's perfect timing.

God Bless!

Simple Basics

Can I just say that this outfit is one of my favorite of all time? It has nothing to do with how it looks or anything like that. More like how it made me feel. I felt simple and comfortable in this and it was perfect for an afternoon spent editing photos this past weekend. I piled my hair on top of my head with a chopstick, put on some lipstick, and I was set for the evening. Sometimes classic, neutral pieces are just the best. This skirt is a piece I received from the kind-hearted and beautiful Dus of Cuddly Cacti. She sent it along with another jumper for our Flock Together Secret Santa swap in December! Wasn't that just sweet? I'll admit, I hadn't figured out a way to wear it until now. But boy, now that I've figured out a way, I'll probably wear the stuffing out of it. It was one of the most comfortable things I think I've worn in a while! The length is just perfect and I have more than enough blazers to pair with it.

I got this, along with a few of my other favorite blazers, at a local thrift store a couple of years ago. They had a huge rack of blazers that were a dollar. ONE DOLLAR PEOPLE. I couldn't' control myself and may have bought like four.  I'm pretty sure it's some 90's boxy business woman's old throw-away, but I love the thing. It's more versatile than I ever thought!

Happy Wednesday friends! It's an errands running day for me, so ciao for now! Off to the bank, and the library, and the grocery store and...oh you get the idea :)
God Bless!

Palm Sunday

One of my most favorite holidays is on my mind this week. Easter is probably the most poignant time of year for me, thinking of the significance of the day. Palm Sunday at our church was just lovely. I never tire of seeing the palm branches being waved during the service, and the children walking through the aisles singing and waving their branches. A group of darling girls did a dance to the song Christ is Risen by Matt Maher. I adore that song so much and it certainly resonates at a time like this. Our church is great- they even had a donkey at the service for all the kiddos to take pictures with! It was very symbolic of just how much Jesus humbled Himself in coming to earth to take our place. He could have ridden in on the biggest white steed, but instead chose to use what any common person would likely own. He wanted to show that he came to die for each and every one of us-from the richest of kings, to the lowest of beggars. I'd say I fall somewhere right in the middle, and you know what? He died for me to :) That's what LOVE is people.

 John 12:12-13
The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the king of Israel!”

I like to dress in pretty, light colors for this time of year. It ushers in spring joy and I rather enjoy looking like an Easter egg while I'm decorating them. Hopefully I'll be able to do a bit of that this weekend! How about you?

As you saw in my last couple of posts I tried out my new set of curlers! It gave me quite the mane I'll tell you. I've never had so much volume in my hair before! It makes me wish I had naturally curly hair. It took me about an hour and a half to set the curlers in my hair when it was wet and it's lasted about three days. I may start doing it more often! Maybe it's just because it's a change, but I feel like everything I put on looks better with a head full of curls.

I hope you're having a very nice week! I got to skype/chat with my sister this morning which was such a treat, since I haven't gotten to speak to her in about a month while she's been in Tanzania. Sounds like the next leg of her journey is going to be Latvia which will be such a change in temperature!  I cannot wait until she's home from her mission trip and we can have a family day :) yippee!
God Bless all!
