Plaid Shirtdress

Play practices have been in full swing this week-I'm getting so excited as time gets closer for the show to open! Also, my playbook matched my dress, so, you know- awesome sauce!
This is another of my grandmother's dresses. I think she was younger when she wore this one-perhaps still in school in the 1950's. I love everything about it, the colors, the plaid, the simplicity of the cut-it's one of my favorites!
Also, I'm not sure how I even fared without this beat up men's jean jacket before I rummaged it several weeks ago. Literally I haven't been wearing any of my other jackets-this one just fits that "I'm somebody's sweetheart" vibe like it's an oversized letterman jacket or something.

Also-tomorrow is a big day!! Sean and I close on our home tomorrow! I cannot wait to be able to call some place our own and have some freedom to do what we like with it. I'm glad that I'll be able to have a yard on a nice day, instead of staying cooped up inside. We already have the new roof put on, and now we'll need to do some painting and a few other repairs, but otherwise the house is wonderful, because it will be ours :)
Sean and I have been doing alright with packing, but it's difficult to pack much until you get closer to your moving date-we have a little over a week before we move in so we still need dishes and clothes and all of that good stuff. We're going to start packing a few boxes a night with comedy on netflix in the background. Last night it was a Ken Davis comedy show-I've always been a Ken Davis fan. Just the way he talks is humorous in itself, and then you add his sense of humor in and it was a pretty delightful way to get some packing done :)

Well, have a nifty day all you guys and dolls!

Camp

I really love high-waisted jeans you guys. Like, why did these ever go out of style? Short vintage jackets and blouses look so much better with a good pair of high-waisted jeans to tuck them into. I wore this to visit my very old friend Big Stone Camp for Christ. I figured it was a fun, casual outfit for a chilly day near the lake hanging with friends!

There are many special people in my life that I just don't get to see as often as I'd like. This weekend I got to visit a place very special to me and see some of my best friends! I grew up going to a very small Bible camp near my home every summer since I was ten years old. I didn't have many friends in school, but during the summer I was able to connect with people that really helped me to grow not only socially, but in my faith as well. We are brothers and sisters in Christ and there is nothing that brings a group closer than that!
I haven't missed a year of camp in 14 years because now I go back to counsel there. When I was somewhere in my teens I connected with these two beauties and we've been great friends ever since. I never tire of getting to go back to camp and hang out with them! This past weekend we had a graduation reception at the camp so it was laid back and fun. We made cotton candy, played balderdash, and just got to catch up with each other. Lovely :)

Ahh, camp :)

Do you have any places that hold a special place in your heart?
God Bless!

And Again...

So, I know this suit is becoming old hat, but I love to wear it again and again! I decided to try a high bun and some obnoxiously bright shoes to make things a bit more fun. As if the suit needs help to be fun! I like this spring because I can still wear coats. It has been so chilly and rainy! I love gloomy days and I'll take a cool spring over sweltering one any day.

Well, I had a really grand weekend. I got to go home and see some amazingly great people. There was a grad party, some kickball, board games, picture taking, and even some mother-daughter time :) A winning combination if you ask me!
Pictures to come :)

Here Comes the Sun

This vibrant yellow dress was calling to me amidst the racks of 70's and 80's horror pieces that were cluttering up the vintage section at my thrift store. It reached out it's  bright sunny hand and waved at me like a old friend. I don't think I own a piece quite this vivid in my closet! When I went to try it on, I almost questioned the fit of it a bit, until I realized that the two front slits were pockets and then I  was completely sold. Any dress with pockets is a no brainer-it's coming home with me!  I wanted to go for a completely authentic vibe to the era, so I donned a headscarf in a way I haven't really worn before. People look at you so funny in church when you wear a scarf like this! They're like, "I can't tell if she's a really well dressed 65 year old, or if she's a young person with weird style..." Story of my life :)
I really loved the combo of peachy pink and bright yellow though, who would have ever thought of that combination could work? Certainly not me, until now!

Alright, so funny story about this photoshoot. I always take pictures outside  my apartment complex, at the risk of being seen by passerby's. I never thought however that people could be watching me from atop their balconies! So some lady is out on her balcony smoking and apparently just watching my husband taking photos of me on the sidewalk and she shouts, "I love your outfit-what's your inspiration?" She said it in just this really weird way that made me not sure how to answer her so I said, "Thanks! Um...the 1960's? I really love vintage fashion." And she said, "Oh, well you look like you're going to a wedding, I've never seen a dress that color before!"
Haha, I am so socially awkward you guys that I just nodded and pretty much ran inside because I was so embarrassed. Then I spent the next five minutes asking Sean if I was socially awkward, which we both knew was YES OMGOODNESS FOR SURE.
So, the picture down below is me trying to interact with that lady on the balcony. Oi vey.

Well Dahlings, Sean and I are headed off to my hometown for a grad party this weekend! I am really excited as I haven't seen my parents in what seems a good long while and I am thankful for the excuse to go home and hug my mama :)
So, have a blissful weekend everyone!

What I Wore to Play Practice

I thrifted this little sailor-themed jacket a couple of days ago and I just couldn't wait to wear it! I could probably rant to you forever on how awesome it is. I love the asymmetrical red and blue, and how the zipper is off to the side. There is more red wrapped around, and less blue which I think is so interesting! Genius :)
It also has a little sailor's wheel for the zipper and anchor buttons on the pockets. Could it get any more vintage perfect?

I wore this to play practice. We're getting closer to the show now which is exciting! My favorite part of musicals is getting to dance :) I've always loved to dance. I've thought for a long time about taking a dance class from somewhere here in town, but I haven't done it yet! I'm going to have to get on that, because dancing just makes me happy :)

I trust you all are having a great week! I love the rain, so it's been all smiles and cozy blankets in my neck of the woods. Plus, going for a run in the rain is so much more refreshing than having the sun beat down on you.
God bless!
