Vintage Loungewear

So for several weeks I had been eyeing this 1940's/50's lounge robe (Tag says: Evelyn Pearson lounging apparel) at my favorite thrift haunt. It's gorgeous light blue/green was fabric peeking out from the rack filled with 1970's polyester maxi dresses. I felt like vintage loungewear was something that had been missing in my wardrobe. I wear a lot of vintage clothing, but when it was time to relax all I had to put on were sweatpants. I finally couldn't take it any longer and brought this baby home with me. The fabric is in perfect condition. It is only missing it's button and original belt, but that doesn't bother me too much. I feel so glamorous in it. It's a little bit ridiculous that one could feel so fancy in a robe.
I pulled out my best journal that I received from my father in law. It is in a beautiful tapestry fabric case and it just seemed to pair perfectly with this robe. I must confess, my sister is more the writer in our family, but I can pretend I have writing talent, right? Yes.  So a few days ago I made Sean take a some photos so that the beauty of this piece can truly be appreciated :)

Since I have come down with what the doctor called the "creepy crud" (basically that means that I am sick enough to write a note that says I can miss work, but not an illness that they can prescribe me anything for), I thought I would leave you with the type of thing I would LIKE to wear when I am sick, because right now I am definitely in my rattiest sweatpants drinking gallons of juice and hot chocolate.

Would you ever consider wearing vintage loungewear? Or is it too fussy for you?

Stay well my friends!
God Bless,
KJA

Oh my gosh, look at the texture of that dress... it's like papery bubblewrap, so cool, so cool! *____*

Haha, ah, I don't wear anything fancy when I sleep. Usually just a ratty, oversized T-shirt (stylish!). This is such a glamorous piece, though. It's very Cinderella-esque!

Hope you get rid of your creepy crud sickness soon, you poor thing!! Have a good rest of the weeeeeek <3

Vintage lounge wear is truly the best reminder of why I love vintage. Even for bed, or lounging, people looked pretty. I own one "bed jacket" from the 50s. I put in quotes because the idea that someone wore a fabulous, embroidered bit of silk over their nightie makes me giddy with happiness. I'm one of those people that cringes to see pajamas in public, yet that "bed jacket" has only ever been worn in public. It's too beautiful to only wear on the couch! To think that people looked more elegant on their couches fifty years ago than most people can be bothered to look on the street these days is the essence of vintage: it hearkens back to a time when appearances were considered, in the active sense. Life's too short to be ugly! :)

Feel better Katie!

That vintage loungewear is a beaut! I've never had any of my own - well actually one from the 60s, but I wear it as a dress and not to lounge in. I really love how true to vintage you are. You always look like you stepped off the silver screen :-)

Have a loverly weekend doll!
