Hair Tutorial: 1940's Bumper Bangs

Hello there all! It's been a while since I made a hair tutorial (mainly because I am so bad at them!) but I thought I'd show how I style 1940's bumper bangs. I always get asked if I use any hair fillers like netting, etc. to achieve volume. I do not use fillers, I just rat and roll :) so hopefully this will be easy peasy for you too. Enjoy and have a great Tuesday!

Outfit: Walking Yearbook

Hey there lovelies! I prematurely wore a fall weather outfit a couple of weeks ago consisting of a wool skirt and sweater. This time of year is such that it is cold in the morning and blisteringly hot in the afternoon, so getting dressed is always a guessing game. I simply couldn't wait to wear this blouse/sweater/shoe combination though with my latest style obsession in full force. I just want to look like I stepped out of a yearbook in the 1940's, is that so wrong?

I found this blouse at a thrift store about a month ago, and I have already worn it about twice a week since I got it. It is perfect and wonderfully layer-able. Not to mention it was only cost a dollar, so I am happy as a lark. It goes so well under sweaters and cardigans and gives off that perfect celluloid collar vibe of past decades that I so love. I found this pendant necklace randomly stuck in an envelope hidden in a suitcase at my grandmother's old house. Technically my friend Rachelle was the one with sleuthing prowess to find it for me. I want to know the story behind it you guys! Did it belong to my great-grandmother? Was it a gift, did it mean something special? Where did it come from? Oh if things of the past could talk!

Have a great Monday, all!
God Bless,
KJA

Outfit: Benson's Flea Market

Hello, ladies and gents! I am so glad it is jacket weather because I absolutely love how the item makes any outfit seem more complete. I never feel truly put together in the hot weather because I need that top layer as my security blanket.
This brown jacket has been my best friend on the occasional crisp days we have had. It is a very thin material, unlined, and the perfect shade of neutral brown. I actually don't remember where I got this one from...thrifted maybe? But I also have another jacket that is almost identical to this one except it is made of thick wool. So I will have a cooler weather version too!

I wore this outfit to go to a monthly event in our city called Benson's Flea Market. It has become a favorite of mine to attend each month and I always find the best treasures! This time around it was a jade necklace and pin. I know they're not a set, but I couldn't resist wearing them together. I am absolutely in love with the butterfly pin and want to start hunting out more jade pieces now.

I also found these magical and wonderful green sunglasses at the flea market! I've been trying to glean more 1930's/40's style accessories rather than the more 50's/60's era pieces, and these sunnies hit right on the mark. I'm not sure when they would truly be dated, but they certainly have a lot of clues pointing to them being from the earlier era. I am in love.

For anyone wondering I also ran into my old kettle corn friend at the flea market too! He picked me out of the crowd and said, "There's my beautiful lady!" Not even sure he knows my name but he finds me at the flea market each time to complement me and talk popcorn and nostalgia :) I'm going to have to set aside a few dollars each time to buy popcorn from him I think just because he and his wife are such sweethearts!

Have a fabulous weekend all!

God Bless,
KJA

Inspiration: Miss Annie Rooney

Today's inspiration comes from a movie that I took the time to watch last weekend. It had been in my netflix cue for a while, but I hadn't watched it because I wasn't sure if I would enjoy a slightly older Shirley Temple (I believe she was 14 in this movie). It turns out I LOVED it and have been mooning over it for the past several days. Shirley is adorable and I wanted to steal every piece of her wardrobe. Plus the story line was very cute, telling an innocent, puppy love romance. Sadly, I couldn't find any photos in color of the stunning pink ballgown she wears in the movie, which was one of my favorite parts, but you'll have to watch the movie to see for yourself :). Here are just a few of my favorite snapshots of the film!

Apple Orchard

As I said on Monday, my family and I went out to an apple orchard this past weekend for their apple festival! It was my older sister's birthday and my whole family got together (which is ridiculously hard to do with all of our schedules). We took my three nephews apple picking and had all the fun in the world. It was so enjoyable to watch them pick and eat apples with the juice running down their little faces. The hayride out to the orchard was incredibly fun too, and is always my favorite part of the festival.
I also somehow got roped into doing one of the inflatable games with my eldest nephew, which was much more difficult than I imagined. Those kiddos are in good shape! haha.

I wore the comfiest outfit ever, finally having found some overalls at a thrift store that fit (albeit a little big). They're more early 2000's than 1940's-esque, but I have to work with what I've got, ok?

I miss my family so much! Even though I'm married and living on my own I still miss living in a house with my parents and sisters at times. They're pretty great :)
